How many treatments will I need?
Given that there is little damage to the skin surface, several treatments may be required to see the desired effect. For best results, approximately 4-6 treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart, are needed. The number of skin rejuvenation treatments depends on the area treated, your expectations and your goals, thus your medical professional will decide on a plan that is best for you.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects can include transient redness and increased or decreased pigment in the treated area. Minimizing sun exposure can reduce these side effects.

What is the FotoFacial RF procedure like?
First, the area to be treated is cleansed. Then a thin layer of ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area and you will be given protective eyewear. The treatment requires no anesthesia.

FotoFacial RF treatments are accomplished through a delicate hand piece attached to the ELOS system. When placed against the skin you will feel the cold tip. When the pulse of light and low energy radio frequency is administered there is a momentary sensation that is easily tolerated.

Brown spots at first appear darker, right after the treatment. After several days they begin to flake off. There is no bruising or discoloration. The skin is not broken by the treatment, thus patients are able to return to full activities immediately after treatments.

How long does the FotoFacial RF procedure take?
Treatments take between twenty-five minutes to forty-five minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

How much does FotoFacial RF cost?
The cost usually varies according to the treatment size. We do offer "packages" of five prepaid treatments. The fee per treatment is reduced, so the overall price is less. This depends on the area being treated. This is the most economical way to get the best results

What are the pretreatment procedures?
Usually none are necessary - we do prefer that you would not come in with any kind of a sunburn or particularly suntan. This treatment works best on paler skin and if you are tanned, the tan will pick up the light waves instead of the abnormal pigment or blood vessels that we want to treat. If you are tanning, we ask you to try to stop at least one month prior to your treatment sessions. Please stay away from suntan parlors, and do not apply any "self-tanning" creams for one week prior. You may use these afterwards. Please do not take any "photo" sensitive medicines for one week prior including the following: A. Tetracycline, Minocin, Dynacin, Monodox or Doryx B. Diuretics C. Antifungals D. NSAIDs, Aleve, St. John's Wort.

If you have ever had herpes or think you may have (cold sores or fever blisters), inform your practitioner prior to scheduling your appointment so that we take the necessary precautions prior to your treatment in order to prevent any side effects.

What are the post treatment procedures?
Immediately after your treatment the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities. Dark spots and small blood vessels may seem a little more noticeable, but they will begin to fade after several days. Wee may recommend that you use a specially-formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type after your FotoFacial RF treatments. The use of sunblock is strongly encouraged on any treated areas exposed to the sun.

There is virtually no down time, and you may go right back to work. Do not suntan for the next week, and avoid any excess sun exposure for the next month. You may resume any acne or topical aging medications the following night.
